Holy cow!

I woke up this morning, and I was curious to see what the blizzard had wrought. My god. O.o

My mother told me stories of her childhood in Oregon where she had been snowed in, and, of course, I have seen movies based in Alaska where people had to use snowmobiles and such to get around, but...

My plans for the day have changed. I am staying right where I am. Yes, that may hose up my timeline for the rest of the week, but I am most emphatically NOT going out until the roads are clear. (And all roads in Lake County were closed around 2:30am)

If you'd like to see some (sideways, sorry!) photos taken from my phone, check under the cut!

Let it snow....! No, now take it back! )

Yesterday I discovered some deficiencies in my winter wardrobe that will be rectified when I reach Boston. Duncan gave me a balaclava, which helped, but I need a winter coat that doesn't invite Mr Wind to whip up under the bottom hem and up my sleeves, and a pair of leggings to layer under my jeans will keep ice from getting kicked up my thighs.

So, today looks to be pretty low-key. Tomorrow, I will have to clear the driveway at the old house enough for my cleaning crew to get in, but hopefully that won't take too many hours.

Stay warm, folks that are in storm bands. Be smart (and I'm looking at you, [livejournal.com profile] roho) and work from home if you can.

I suppose I should update. Neither of us has had a tremendous amount of time for blogging lately, so apologies that we've been quiet!

We're moving to Boston. Well, [livejournal.com profile] roho is already in Boston, and is moving into our new digs today, I will be following, if all goes as planned, around the end of the month. He has a new job with a new company in a completely different industry, and we're very excited.

Today, a some very wonderful local friends are descending on our Illinois place and making furniture and other things disappear, and I cannot express my gratitude enough. You guys are wonderful!

I never realized how much it would suck having to stay by myself for a month, pack up a house and get it ready to sell. I really hope we never have to do this again.

In other news, while cleaning out the china hutch so it can go to its new home, I found a full bottle of cacacha. Caprinhas, here I come! :9
