This morning, I found claw marks on our new leather sofa. Not from sharpening, but from leaping up on the sofa and digging in.

I realize we took a risk, getting leather while we have a clawed cat. But my fury right now is beyond that.

So. Felines of our household, take note.

Marcus- stop chasing Cailet. Cailet, turn around and SWIPE HIS NOSE, don't give him a chase, don't come running to me, BEAT HIS ASS. YOU HAVE CLAWS, HE DOESN'T.

I am seriously about to lock BOTH of you in a small room and not let you out til you can get along. I am FED UP with the bickering.

Oh- and don't think you'd have it easier with [livejournal.com profile] roho. Marcus, you are on ESPECIALLY thin ice with Daddy.

You know what... I've considered those, and always said 'meh' on them. I am ordering a set RIGHT NOW, because dammit!

Cailet's 15, and I really don't agree with declawing cats (Marcus came pre-declawed), and... she claws US, she claws the furniture.. she's just CARELESS.

And I'm still annoyed at her. >.>

I'm going to second SoftClaws! My cat Loki has an expensive love of leather and wood under his claws and he's destroyed a number of furniture in my home... until I bought SoftClaws. They really do work and are such a great alternative to declawing (which I am vehemently against).

I'm very anti-declaw as well, our kitty that IS declawed was like that when we found him (which makes his being a stray SO MUCH WORSE).

I ordered a pretty pink set, because I wanted them to really show up against her fur so I could laugh everytime I saw them. >.>

I'm a mean cat momma. :D

She's never been one to shred furniture if she has a scratching post available, she's always been REALLY good about that, so.. I think this might work. [livejournal.com profile] roho said it might also be our boycat launching off the sofa, as he likes using his hind claws more than most cats do, so... If I can get them on the pointy one okay, I'll get a second set to put on his rear wheels. ;D

Makes sense, if his front claws are missing, that he'll compensate for grip by using his hind claws more. Tamilin has a chair that's been shredded by the cats jumping off of it like that.

I was wondering if those worked. My cat came to me declawed as well, but I was always curious.

Hope the SoftPaws work! ... They don't make them in lynx size, I hope. >_>

Claw the furniture and we'll find out. ;)

While you order the softpaws, you may want to consider putting a blanket or throw wherever they seem to be poking holes to protect it. Not a long term solution, but it might buy you some time.

We did, right after I found the punctures. :)

And regarding your other comment, yes- he compensates alot. We've found rolls of toilet paper with tooth marks on one side and neat punch-card holes on the other.

He's a special special boy. ;D

I clip my cat's front claws. I just nip off about 1/8 inch. I have to do it every few weeks, as she sheds the claws, but it has worked wonderfully.

I never developed the habit of trimming her claws, and started doing it right before we got the sofa. She's clawing us less, but... ergh.

I have the same problem with my dogs! I love em, but Bijou tears up blankets and towels like you wouldn't believe. Ugh. -_-

They apparently make SoftPaws for dogs, too. >.>

I ordered a set for the cats and put a blanket over it in the interim.

Oh, we have looked longingly at the beautiful leather sofas we could get. We've sat on them in furniture stores and said, "Wow, this would look really good in our house."

And then we go home without buying anything. QQ

Yeah. -.- The sad part is, even with a blanket covering it, it is still more comfortable than the other cloth stuff we looked at, and I know she would have snagged the HELL out of that. -.-
